Trekking West with Route 66 and Aliens

Friday, May 21, 2021 brought the end of school and the beginning of our long awaited trip West to visit the Grand Canyon and many other parks. In planning this trip we knew the distance and that getting to the destination is always half the fun. With this in mind we searched and found many attractions and points of interest to see along the way with most being FREE!! Route 66 and Roswell were in our sights!

Route 66 – Texas

Entering Texas on Interstate 40 we were paralleling the historic Route 66. This meant it was time to hop off the speedway and visit some of the roadside attractions from the days of old. None of these attractions cost a single cent and all were worth the detour to see.

The best part of the time was that after seeing such amazing sites we got to stay at the Big Texan RV Ranch which included a limo ride from our campsite to the Big Texan Steak Ranch! This is the world famous home of the 72 ounce steak and if you can eat it, with all the sides, in an hour or less it’s FREE!!!

In addition to the free limo ride the RV Ranch has an indoor pool and secure bathrooms and laundry facilities on site. A couple notes for the park is that there is very little shade and the water pressure is extremely high! The attendant warned us in advance that the pressure was 80 psi + so you’ll definitely need a water regulator! We use an inline regulator with our water filter at every site just to be safe. The last thing we want is ruptured plumbing or nasty water!

New Mexico

After spending the night in the Big Texan campground it was on into New Mexico with our beams set on Roswell and little green men! The attractions are close together and all within walking distance. The UFO museum is very inexpensive and you have to check out the McDonalds UFO at night!

After leaving Roswell we continued into Arizona bound for the Grand Canyon and all it’s glory. Be sure you’re subscribed to the blog so you don’t miss out. Until next time….
